How Do I install my Decals?
Your YardRink comes with NHL decals that add a professional finish to your panels and give you a great way to show off your support for your favorite NHL team. They’re a simple, fun way to personalize your rink and bring that authentic backyard hockey feel to your setup.
When Should I Install the Decals? We recommend installing your NHL decals after your rink panels are fully assembled and secured, but before you fill the rink with water.
For best results, install the decals on the upper third of the panel so they remain visible once the rink is full and frozen.
It’s also best to install the decals from behind the panels so you can line them up neatly and keep them away from the tarp or rink surface. And be sure not to walk on the tarp before it has frozen, walking on the tarp before frozen can increase risk of tearing the tarp.
Installing before water is added also gives you a clean, dry surface for the best adhesion.
How to Install NHL DecalsInstalling your decals is simple and should only take a few minutes per panel.
1. Clean the Panel Surface
Make sure the area where the decal will be placed is:
- Clean
- Dry
- Free of snow, dirt, or ice
A quick wipe-down helps ensure the decal adheres properly.
2. Plan Your Placement
Before removing any backing, loosely position the decals to:
- Keep spacing consistent across panels
- Align logos at a similar height
- Place them high enough on the panel so the finished ice will not cover them
- Create a balanced look around the rink
3. Apply the Decal
Once you're happy with placement:
- Peel the backing slowly
- Apply the decal from one side to the other
- Smooth it down as you go to avoid air bubbles
A flat hand or soft cloth works well for pressing it into place.
4. Press and Secure
After application:
- Press firmly across the entire decal
- Pay extra attention to the edges
- Make sure all corners are fully adhered to the panel
- Install decals on a calm day (wind can make handling easier)
- Avoid installation in freezing rain or wet snow
- Don’t stretch the decal during application
- If temperatures are very cold, let decals warm slightly indoors before applying
- Install decals before adding water, and do not walk on the tarp until it has frozen
Decals are designed for a secure hold once applied. Minor adjustments are possible immediately after placement, but we recommend applying carefully and only once for the best long-term results.
