How Do I Resurface My Ice After a Storm?

Snowstorms and changing winter weather are simply part of having a backyard rink. Fortunately, resurfacing your YardRink is quick and easy, helping you get back to smooth skating in no time.

Start by Clearing the Snow

Never use a metal shovel to clear your rink. Metal shovels can damage your YardRink panels. Instead, use a plastic snow shovel, snow pusher, or snowblower to gently remove as much snow as possible.

If the snow has become slushy, you have two options:

• Shovel away as much slush as possible before temperatures drop.
• Or leave it in place and apply a thin layer of water over the surface once conditions allow. As the water freezes, it will help create a smoother skating surface.

Add a Thin Layer of Water

Once the surface is clear, apply a thin, even layer of water over the ice. Many homeowners use a homemade resurfacer (sometimes called a DIY Zamboni) or simply use a hose with a gentle spray attachment.

A light flood is all you need. Thin layers freeze faster and create a smoother finish than adding too much water at once.
